Who We Are
We are a well organised small family business based on a farm near the North Cornish coast where we hand make top quality award winning cheeses in small batches.
We use local pasteurised cows’ and goats’ milk and our own unique recipes – developed over the last 17 years.
We now have our own purpose built modern dairy and maturing rooms – where we have taken our cheese making to a new level as our many awards testify. We love what we do and hope you will enjoy our cheeses too.

Our History
Cheesemaking began in 1999 in a disused stable on Whalesborough Farm where the cows provided milk for the cheese making.
Using milk churns to move the milk and tractor weights to press the cheeses we worked hard to develop a range of cheeses that are both popular and different.
Our customers have played a big part in this and we can pride ourselves on our close relationship with them.
Unfortunately the cows were sold in 2004, but buying local milk has allowed us to use all our resources to make top quality cheese.
In 2014 production moved to Norton Barton Artisan Food Village. In 2022 Sue Proudfoot retired and the team at Norton Barton took over. Norton Barton is home to an award winning group of artisan producers working to supply farm shops and delis nationally.
Sustainability
We try to minimise the use of plastics whenever we can. Most of our cheeses are wrapped in paper, however our Keltic Gold cheese is wrapped in cling film because the delicious cider wash makes the cheese sticky and, that means it can’t be wrapped in paper.
All our cheese whey is fed to either the pigs here at Norton Barton or is anaerobically digested to produce methane.
Most of the electricity used in the dairy is provided by Norton Barton’s 330kw wind turbine.
